If yes, the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre is seeking volunteers to assist in interpreting a labyrinth of tunnels built by the philanthropist Joseph Williamson in the 1820’s and 1830’s. Some of the tunnels are at least 30 feet in depth!

The Friends of the Heritage Centre (FOHC) is the support group which assists the Joseph Williamson Society in operating, maintaining and developing the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre, the only permanent memorial to the life and philanthropic works of 19th Century tobacco merchant,Joseph Williamson
For just £10 a year members will:
– receive a membership card
– receive a regular newsletter which will carry updates on the latest research, progress reports on excavation at the Heritage Centre, general news about the Centre and advance information about forthcoming events.
– be entitled to visit the Heritage Centre anytime during normal opening hours to view the work of the JWS.
– have the satisfaction of knowing that they are actively supporting the JWS in maintaining and developing the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre.
